SUMMARY:INCOSE - The REUSE Company Presentation: Culture Engineering in S
ystems Engineering Leadership: Measuring cultural variants.
LOCATION:Yokohama\, Japan
DESCRIPTION:Climate\, common history\, same language\, moral\, religion\,
and other factors significantly influence the behavior of human groups\
, giving rise to common patterns that dictate how individuals within a "
group" should behave\, react\, or perceive various social aspects. Cultu
re\, in this context\, can be seen as a set of behaviors\, customs\, val
ues or even beliefs shared by a group of humans. The existence of differ
ent cultures usually ends up in interaction problems (miss-understanding
 \, miss-judgements\, prejudices\, disaffection\, etc.) among individuals
from different social groups. This study aims to address intercultural
communication problems by proposing simple scientific methods to compare
cultures\, with the intention to provide Systems Engineering leaders me
ans to overcome cultural problems in multinational teams. To achieve thi
s goal\, an explicit framework was established for comparing cultural va
riables\, enabling their representation in topological maps. By assignin
g values to these variables for a predefined set of countries\, distance
tables were created\, facilitating the comparison and analysis of cultu
res\, revealing explicit trends. It is argued that comprehending the dif
ferences between cultures is essential for resolving interaction problem
s among individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The study results
in a scientific framework that explicitly presents these cultural diffe
rences\, offering valuable insights for multi-cultural groups. The mappe
d distribution of cultures indicates potential cultural flows from east
to west or west to east\, with the Mediterranean region serving as a foc
al point. The study concludes with key insights and lessons learned.
