Requirements Quality in Microsoft Excel
The Systems Engineering Suite (SE Suite) is a software framework enabling the realization of systems engineering based on reuse, and with a knowledge centric approach. The SE Suite enables an organization to integrate the already existing tools (Capella, Microsoft Office, PTC Integrity, Siemens Teamcenter, IBM Rational DOORS, DS-Catia No Magic MagicDraw, etc.) within a powerful lifecycle management environment enabling technical management processes (Quality, Configuration management, Decision Support) as well as Verification, Validation and traceability.
For quality management, the connector to MS Excel allows you to define, measure, improve and manage the quality of your requirements specifications within the systems engineering process. The REUSE Company offers a specialized version that works with MS Excel: RQA – QUALITY Studio for Excel. RQA – QUALITY Studio for Excel uses a wide set of metrics to assess the quality of a requirements specification, mainly Correctness, Consistency and Completeness (CCC). While individual metrics are suitable to assess the correctness of a single requirement, global metrics can assess the consistency and correctness of a requirements’ set specification. The global metrics covered by RQA – QUALITY Studio for Excel are coupling, inconsistency and missing requirements, and can be applied to any kind of requirements types, like for example, functional requirements.
In the same way, the connector allows full traceability of requirements in Microsoft Excel with the entire set of tools connected to the suite. It allows MS Excel users support for Product Line Engineering (PLE), Verification, Validation, Decision Management, Configuration Management, Reuse, and, finally, the integration of requirements engineering in a completely configurable lifecycle.
RQA – QUALITY Studio for Excel is fully integrated with MS Excel (versions from MS Excel 2000 to MS Excel 2013). RQA – QUALITY Studio for Excel uses Excel sheets to store the requirements information, therefore, it can be used for those organizations that are currently using no requirement management tool to support the requirement management process, or in those cases where there is no connector available to your RM tools, since most of the RM tools provide a roundtrip export-import system through MS Excel.
